ASELSAN has announced the fielding of the KORKUT 8×8/140 Short-Range Air Defense System, now integrated on 35 wheeled armored tactical vehicles.

Developed for low-altitude air defense, the system has been configured to operate across different mission scenarios and terrain types, incorporating new operational capabilities with a strong focus on mobility and flexibility.

KORKUT had already been integrated into the inventory of security forces in its tracked version and has also achieved export success. The new integration on 8×8 platforms aims to significantly enhance the system’s strategic and tactical mobility. This configuration was publicly unveiled for the first time at Eurosatory 2024 in Paris, where the system also demonstrated its performance by successfully neutralizing a moving aerial target during live-fire trials.

Component of the ÇELİKKUBBE system

The KORKUT 140/35 is an integral component of Türkiye’s layered air defense system ÇELİKKUBBE (Steel Dome). It is optimized to provide air protection for mechanized units and mobile elements, delivering high effectiveness against low-altitude threats in the operational environment.

The KORKUT operational architecture consists of three Weapon System Vehicles operating as a team and a Command and Control Vehicle responsible for coordination and the integration of command-and-control functions. This structure enables cooperative operations, enhancing situational awareness and target engagement efficiency.

The system employs a twin 35 mm cannon with a rate of fire of 1,100 rounds per minute and an effective range of up to 4 kilometers. Effectiveness is further enhanced by the use of ASELSAN-developed 35 mm ATOM ammunition, capable of neutralizing a wide range of threats, including combat aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, UAV swarms, air-to-surface missiles, and even ballistic missiles in certain phases.

The ATOM 35 ABM and ATOM 35 I-ABM variants, featuring higher particle density, were designed to counter contemporary aerial targets with a higher probability of kill. The stabilized turret enables accurate firing even while the vehicle is on the move, while target acquisition is performed by a three-dimensional search radar, complemented by a fire-control radar and electro-optical sensors integrated into the tracking platform.
